How Does Lightning Cause a Fire?

2/26/2020 (Permalink)

fire damage to a wall socket When the lightning struck the home, it blew out the wall sockets.

Most cloud- to- ground lightning strikes come from the negatively charged bottom of the cloud traveling to the positively charged ground below. These lightning strikes can cause fire and property damages. If you're the tallest object, then lighting can strike you.

During the five-year-period of 2007-2011, NFPA estimates that U.S. local fire departments responded to an estimated average of 22,600 fires started by lightning per year.

In this photo, a Memphis resident experienced just this. Lightning struck her home causing it to catch fire.

SERVPRO of Midtown Memphis was called in to clean the aftermath. We understand you may be feeling confuses, stressed, and more than a little vulnerable. Our technicians will treat your family with empathy and your home with great care.
